Abstract:
Reports results from a series of experimental fires lit over a range of differing substrates to examine the geophysical response created by the fire and the magnetic enhancement of the underlying soil. Demonstrates that short-term camp fires provide sufficient heat to produce a distinguishable magnetometer anomaly through the production of both a magnetically enhanced ash layer and the thermal alteration of the underlying soil.
