Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reports in detail on various aspects of a hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver, found in Staffordshire in 2009. In the first section Deb Klemperer describes the public response to the hoard, the exceptional publicity surrounding it, and its impact on the museums and people associated with its discovery and curation. Pieta Greaves discusses the conservation process, explaining that each piece needs to be individually assessed to determine the appropriate level of intervention. Duygu Camurcuoglu describes the work on fragments of silver and silver-gilt embossed foils, which may originally have decorated helmets or other objects, being undertaken at the British Museum. Chris Fern then discusses research on the hoard overall, including its characterisation, the level of wear and tear seen on objects, and themes and motifs evident within the artwork. A final note mentions some additional items recovered in 2012 during a metal detecting and fieldwalking survey funded by Staffordshire County Council and English Heritage. LD | |||||||||||
