Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Greg Bailey reviews television programme Digging for Britain, the third series of which was broadcast in the summer on BBC2, and First Britons, broadcast in August, also on BBC2. The former looks at fieldwork projects at sites of different historical periods across Britain. Bailey praises its format and presentation, finding that a studio review of each project allows 'something of an exchange of views rather than authored narrative or the unattributed confidence of an actor's voiceover'. The house style of First Britons, looking at Mesolithic and Neolithic evidence from Britain and further afield, is found to be less successful. Whilst it features much 'solid science', the 'disparate, breathlessly imparted' information fails to add up to an overarching narrative. LD | ||||
