Abstract:
The analysis suggests that early Neanderthal crania were morphologically more like modern Homo sapiens than were the later or classic Neanderthals. Implications are discussed in the light of archaeological evidence and comparative studies of Pleistocene crania from outside Europe. There may for instance have been some acculturation and culture diffusion between Neanderthal and Upper Palaeolithic populations. Au(adp)
