Abstract:
The excavation of road and house foundations revealed traces of a multi-phased site, with finds representing five separate periods of occupation. Casual activity in the Neolithic-Bronze Ages, indicated by a scatter of struck flints, was succeeded by more substantial Mid-- Late Iron Age settlement. A rectangular ditched enclosure was dated by pottery to c AD~25--75, and further sherds proved to be of Late Iron Age-Early Roman date. An Early Anglo-Saxon grave produced a heavy bronze buckle typical of the sixth century AD, and a metal detector survey located a decorated gilded silver sword pommel and a cruciform brooch.
