Rescue excavations in the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company at City Road, Islington in 1994 where a deep underground car park was being constructed with no prior agreement about archaeological input. A Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age site was found but had been mostly destroyed, similarly a seventeenth-century rubbish dump had also been mostly destroyed. 1998 excavations 90m from the 1994 site revealed layers containing domestic rubbish and pottery, mostly of eighteenth-century date. | |||||||||
