Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The authors discuss the remains at five sites recorded as a result of an archaeological watching brief and evaluation during construction of a gas pipeline between Silk Willoughby, near Sleaford, and Staythorpe Power Station, Newark. The sites (at Doddington Littlegate; Frieston Road; Normanton Heath; Grantham Road, Quarrington; and South Rauceby) featured Late Neolithic to Bronze Age burial monuments and Iron Age pit alignments, and their landscape context and significance are discussed. It is suggested that both forms of monument would have served to demarcate territory and claim land, potentially associated with the upland resources provided by the limestone ridge of the Lincoln Edge. | |||||||||
