Abstract:		 Notes on a brooch found in 2003 near Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire. Its gilt Style II animal ornament and garnet setting indicate that it is a high status dress-fastener, datable to the period AD 575--610. Analysis of its form and ornament suggests that it was a local experiment in the application of a new animal style.
