Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Long review. The volume is a milestone in the study of RB towns, not merely of Verulamium, and is moreover well presented and easy to use. Some different interpretations might be placed on some of the evidence, for instance the question of individual or common ownership at various times of the shops in Insula XIV. Period III could well be dated rather earlier. The large section on coarse pottery groups is welcome, even though 3rd and 4th century groups are few. Still awaited are a full treatment of the coin evidence, of wood identifications and of the potentially important metal-working evidence; the index is unhelpfully brief. | |||||||
