Modifications to the crypt provided the opportunity to observe details of its architectural features and fabric. There is discussion of the construction trench and plinth, stone, mortar and plaster, and lamp niches including comparison with those at Hexham. The Great Eastern Niche and east wall of the main chamber are discussed in detail. Finally, there is note on new work and an `Appendix : stone and mortar samples from the Wilfridian crypt, Ripon' by P Foster (50--2). | ||||
