[SE 858646]. Fifteen mammalian species and fish and mollusca occur in successive excavations of this deserted village. Tables for the various periods are given, embodying some two thousand specimens. Examples of worked bone occur, also of pathological conditions. Counts and percentages of species are given, based on numbers of fragments. Age of killing appears broadly the same as in Saxon times. Animals are small in size, and sheep both horned and hornless. An unusually large number of horse remains suggests the possibility of Wharram being a breeding centre; otherwise it resembles other medieval sites. B W\r\nWith notes on the background by J. G. Hurst and on the medieval use of horses by H. E. Jean Le Patourel. | |||||||||
