Eighteenth century maps show this village was once much more extensive and, although several seventeenth century buildings remain, only the church and market cross have medieval associations. Documentary research, aerial and geophysical survey and trial excavations revealed well preserved earthworks and potentially rich archaeology, on which further work should be done. AR
