Abstract:		 In January 2014, Northamptonshire Archaeology transferred from Northamptonshire County Council to Museum of London Archaeology. The progress of the archaeological fieldwork team within the county council has been recorded in the pages of South Midlands Archaeology (SMA, previously CBA Group 9 Newsletter) from the early 1970s. This article gives a brief outline of the history of the team, which grew alongside the county's Sites and Monuments Record following the first appointment of a full-time archaeology officer in 1973, and mentions some of the fieldwork projects that were reported in SMA. The Contracts Section separated from the Curatorial Section in 1993, at which time it became Northamptonshire Archaeology. LD
