Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A compilation of information, particularly regarding the sixteenth-century garden layout created by the Earl of Leicester, brought together with a view to the eventual restoration of the Elizabethan gardens for public exhibition. A brief history of the site and historical and documentary evidence is followed by details of evidence for twelfth--thirteenth-century, later medieval, sixteenth-century, and seventeenth-twentieth-century garden activity. This is followed by a description of the structural details of Leicester's stables, being of stone with brick and timber upper storey. Specialist reports include `Illustrated objects' by Lynne Bevan & Blanche Ellis (101 & 102) which re-examines six of the small finds: an iron rowel spur; jet bead; two copper alloy dress maker pins; a copper alloy chape; and a copper alloy circular ring with hexagonal shaped section -- possibly used in a brooch, saddlery or clothing. `Medieval and post-medieval pottery' is detailed by Stephanie Ratkai (103-13). A synthesis and discussion close proceedings. | ||||||||||||||||||||
