Abstract:
Topographical, ecclesiastical, and excavated evidence for considerable Anglo-Scandinavian activity within and outside the Roman colonia. At 58-9 Skeldergate the remains of four rectangular timber buildings of pre-Conquest date were examined; a possible pre-Conquest church on the Clementhorpe Nunnery site is also recorded. With contributions by Sara Donaghey, R. A. Hall, Martin Carver and David Brinklow.
