Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A review of The temple of Sulis Minerva at Bath 1(1): the site by Barry Cunliffe and Peter Davenport (see 86/561), a book intended as a complete appraisal of all known evidence relating to the site, including that from the most recent excavations (1978-84). The present article considers this evidence in the wider context of classical temple architecture in the western provinces. The majority were of Romano-Celtic type. There are no examples of purely classical temples in Britain after the 3rd quarter of the 1st century AD and Bath did not set a precedent or establish an architectural type. IH | |||
