Archaeological works undertaken in 2004 along the route of Edenbridge's western relief road revealed evidence of a substantial watercourse infilled with material dating to the late-twelfth to mid-thirteenth century. This artificial channel carried water to the moat surrounding Edenbridge manor house and provided dating evidence for the digging of the moat and the early use of the manor. Evidence of metalworking activity was also found, indicating that a smithy existed nearby in the twelfth to thirteenth centuries. Includes | ||||
