Examines archaeological remains dating from the Mesolithic to the Roman period with the intention of determining whether significant changes in settlement/occupation patterns could be discerned over this period, and, if so, whether the factors underlying those changes could be identified. A total of thirty two sites were investigated, and it is proposed that this is a large enough sample for significant conclusions to be drawn in terms of period-specific settlement activity. Notes significant changes in the period under investigation, which are divided into environment, trade and commerce, and agriculture and industry.
