Abstract:
A reassessment detailing arguments which support an early-eighth century AD date. Descriptions of the figures on the cross allow a possible iconographic interpretation to be made and parallels to be drawn with the early Northumbrian crosses, especially Bewcastle. Its current relationship to later manorial and parish boundaries may indicate that it still stands in its original position. A final section by Michael Hare (46--9) deals with `The minster status of Bisley'. Au(adp)
