Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A gold pendant reliquary containing fragments of wood, charcoal and pine bark was found in 1991. Made of two pieces, the front was decorated with the Five Wounds of Christ, popular imagery of the fifteenth to sixteenth centuries. The configuration on the cross occurs in many contexts of this period, but the most useful parallel is the cross worn by Sir Brian Tuke in the Holbein the Younger portrait of 1527. It is likely that the Milton Keynes cross dates to this period, before the religious changes of the 1530s. AR | |||||||
