Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Excavations revealed occupation evidence from the Mesolithic up to the Roman period. There was substantial Bronze Age activity and pottery evidence shows probable continuity into the Iron Age. The Iron Age defences show restructuring associated with house ring-ditches. There is also evidence that the hillfort ditch was re-cut and the bank refurbished during the Roman period. The finds section includes `The flint and chert artefacts' by Alan Saville (18-21), `The objects of stone' by Peter Ellis (21), `The clay mould assemblage' by Stuart Needham (24--9), `The bronze hoard' by Stuart Needham (29--39), `The prehistoric pottery' by Ann Woodward (39--53), `The Roman pottery' by Jane Timby (53--9), `Other finds' by Peter Ellis (59--60), `The technological evidence' by Paul Budd (60), and `The animal bone' by Bruce Levitan (61).
