Abstract:
An excavation at New Park Street, Devizes, revealed a sequence of three buildings. No firm dating evidence was found for the earliest structure, which may have been built in the fifteenth century. The later buildings are attributed to the early seventeenth and mid-eighteenth centuries. A number of post-medieval features, including a well and an icehouse were also examined. `The pottery' (94--7), of medieval and later date, and the `Ceramic building material' (96) are discussed by Mark Gardiner. Post-medieval `Metalwork' (96 & 98) is described by Jon Wallis, `Clay pipes' (98--100) are catalogued by Bronwen Laughlin, `The animal bone' (100) is noted by Diana Jones, and `Worked stone' (100--01) is considered by Michael T Laughlin.
