Abstract:
Excavation recovered evidence of later Iron Age and Early Romano-British settlement in the form of a cluster of storage-type pits and flanking ditches for an east--west aligned trackway. In addition, an extensive midden, a pit containing large quantities of artefacts and at least three inhumation burials resulting from fourth- to fifth-century AD Romano-British activity were identified. The nature of the artefacts recovered (including coins, cattle skulls, iron objects, a lead curse and a bronze garment collar) indicates that a shrine or temple might be situated in the site's vicinity. Other Late Romano-British deposits more typical of settlement-based activity were also present on the site. Includes specialist reports on:
