Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
This pocket-sized early C9 Carolingian book reached England in the early C10 where it received AS additions. Its miniatures illustrate an obscure period in AS art and the book provides insights into Alfred's programme of cultural renewal. The Galba picture cycle is examined in detail in the context of the tradition of psalter illustration, as is the relationship between the Psalter's pictures and texts,. An appendix, 137-8, discusses 'The place of the origin of the first two quires and miniatures, and the later provenance of the Galba Psalter'. | |||
