Abstract:
A section of the main rampart was cut back, foreknowledge of the stratigraphy allowing highly accurate recording of the structures, position of finds and 14C samples, so as to establish a framework of cultural phases based on stratigraphicrelationships. Fifteen ceramic phases were established, of which Cadbury 4-9 (later 2nd millennium BC to AD 60) are discussed here. The associated 14C dates, although consistent with the archaeologically expected dates for the earlier phases, showed discrepancies for the later phases. D G
