Abstract:
Two were excavated, many more mapped. One was 14C-dated to Bronze Age, the other had a wide spread of dates and enigmatic function. Experimental work was aimed to determine whether the observed phenomena could result from burning/cooking. The 'sauna' theory cannot be proved. Examples with settlement or ritual evidence are needed.
