Abstract:
Detailed re-examination suggests the Wheelers tended to date the 2nd century houses too early, and many more of these overlay masonry structures than appears from the report. More recent studies of samian and coin evidence provide a date for the main phase of masonry building between mid-2nd century and 180, possibly as reconstruction after the fire of 155 which seems to have spread over much of the area dug by the Wheelers.
