In 1993 a peat-cutter reported to Scottish Natural Heritage and Historic Scotland several pieces of pine wood bearing axe marks. This article summarises the work undertaken to understand the age and archaeological significance of this find, and how it fits into the wider debate surrounding the documented decline of pine in the Early Bronze Age and the link between this decline and anthropogenic wood clearance. | ||||
