The Government's White Paper This common inheritance: Britain's environmental strategy (see 91/21) in its 'heritage' section contains little comfort for those concerned with the historical dimension of the environment, and few significant initiatives. 'Much of what is proposed . . . is no more than tinkering, and largely unsupported by government financing.' Without a bolder approach, the archaeological and historical dimension of the environment will continue to suffer steady attrition. |
