Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A summary in advance of final publication of a series of rescue excavations on the Roman fort and town of Carmarthen. An early fort was systematically demolished and its defences deliberately slighted c. AD 100 and replaced by a smaller structure, indicating a reduction in its garrison. Work on the civitas capital has concentrated on establishing street patterns (laid out between 120 and 150) and on the excavation of long occupation sequences and timber buildings. Sections of the two-phase, third century town defences have been examined along with an early-second century temple. | ||||||||
