Abstract:
Short article intended as a preliminary note on a project investigating the ruined church of St Mary's, Eastwell, near Ashford, which collapsed suddenly in 1951. The church has now been surveyed and an interim plan and elevation drawings have been produced. Recording of all the grave markers has also been carried out, and documentary study is being undertaken. The project has identified two distinct medieval structural phases; the earliest visible structure is tentatively dated to the 12th century. The construction of the church and a possible cause of its collapse are discussed. LD
