Abstract:		 Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd undertook archaeological work at Stone Castle, about 1.5km south of Greenhithe Village, in advance of proposed redevelopment. Historic use of the land and earlier finds in the vicinity are outlined. Machine stripping of a large area at the site revealed a Late Iron Age to early Roman occupation area with a possible earlier Bronze Age ring ditch. Most of the Iron Age features were likely to represent deliberately backfilled grain storage pits; several ritually 'killed' ceramic vessels had been interred as 'offerings'. One inhumation relating to the same period was discovered. Early Roman finds included a large amount of wall plaster, suggestive of inhabitation in the immediate vicinity. LD
