Fieldwork during the construction of a gas main led to the discovery of a concentration of flints in Marldon parish near Torquay in south Devon. Limited excavation revealed a multi-period prehistoric site which yielded a lithic scatter with a major Mesolithic element, Earlier Neolithic activity, a rare funerary site of Late Neolithic date, an Early Bronze Age pit and a small quantity of Iron Age pottery. There are reports on `The flints' by Peter J Berridge (6-12), and appendices on `Prehistoric pottery' by Ann Woodward (15), `An interim report on the cremated bone from Bulleigh Meadow' by Sue Brown (15-16), `Plant remains' by Vanessa Straker (17) and details of the radiocarbon dates from analysed charcoals. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
