A survey of the late eighteenth-century redoubt revealed that, although altered in the 1950s, most of the fortification survives intact together with the glacis surrounding it, and remains of internal structures probably survive below ground. The history of the site is discussed, together with the principles of fortification illustrated in its construction and its intended role in the defence of the naval dockyard. | ||
