Abstract:
Presents an assessment of the site's surviving late Anglo-Saxon masonry features. A description of the site is provided and is followed by a brief history of past research and interpretation. Two phases are represented and it is argued that the second phase is consistent with the burhs constructed by Æthelred II at the beginning of the eleventh-century. This interpretation is supported when the site is considered within the late Anglo-Saxon landscape.
