Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Ipplepen Priory was an alien cell of the Augustinian order, founded in the twelfth century, of which no visible remains had previously been identified. The report describes the results of limited excavations and a watching brief carried out on the site immediately south of the parish church of St Andrew. It is suggested that the ranges of stone buildings recorded represent part of the Augustinian foundation. They were constructed by the fourteenth century and demolished in the fifteenth or early-sixteenth century. The historical background to the priory is discussed, together with other associated ecclesiastical buildings. Separately authored contributions include | ||||||
