Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
An investigation of the site in advance of redevelopment uncovered a series of Roman buildings of first to fourth centuries AD, one of which, dated to AD 120 and contained two phases of wall paintings. The recovery and conservation of the paintings is described, and a study of the decorative techniques used revealed the order of application of pigments and polishes. An analysis of the art history suggests that the closest parallels for the first phase painting are found in the Mediterranean (see also 92/443). | |||||
