Abstract:
A grant of 88 roods of land in Cheylesmore Park, Coventry, made in 1348 by Queen Isabella, is re-interpreted in the light of a newly recognised deed of 1349. It is now identified as relating to an intended new suburb of Coventry south of Little Park Street, rendered abortive by the onset of the Black Death. Includes hypothetical layout of fourteenth century rood strips, compared to nineteenth century plot boundaries.
