Abstract:
Studies of lakes near Dungannon and of L Catherine (near Island MacHugh) and a series of radiocarbon dates provide evidence for an initial elm decline at 5050-5375 BP, perhaps due to disease, and another at 4330-4260 BP which is set against a background of small-scale clearances which continued after the general regeneration of elm. Episodes of erosion occurred at both declines. Discussion of anthropogenic effects.
