Abstract:
An open area excavation prior to the development of the site for housing revealed several phases of activity. The earliest evidence comprised stray finds of Mesolithic, Neolithic/Bronze Age and Saxon dates. The majority of the excavation was concerned with deposits of medieval and later date. The earlier features (twelfth to thirteenth centuries) comprised reclamation of low-lying land and what seems to have been a channel of the Holy Brook, with pit digging elsewhere. In the thirteenth to fourteenth century, a building was constructed, accompanied by further pit digging. Subsequent, post-medieval, use of the site was less intense until the construction of nineteenth-century workshops
