SP 948861. In Area D were considerable remains of iron smelting, 11th-12th centuries. In Area G traces of occupation about 1150-1200 predated the establishment of a pottery with kiln, workshops, pits and potbank in 13th century. Desertion of the toft occurred before 1350. In Area J, two neighbouring tofts contained fragmentary remains of 13th-century potting activity, succeeded by a 14th/15th-century farm with longhouse, barn and yards, and a tileyard of 1475-1500. Reports on pottery, environmental evidence, rooftiles with zoomorphic finials and with knife-cut crests, small finds and coins are included. Au(adp) |
