Abstract:
SP 948861. This report covers the excavation of the final periods of a medieval industrial complex (Site D) including potter's workshop, associated yards and pits, kilns, potbank and store shed. Study of the structures, small finds and pottery indicates an industry covering the period c 1240-1310 overlying a 12th century industrial phase involving iron-working. The kiln on site E was firing glazed and decorated ridge tiles, and a date around 1400 is suggested. Au. Appended are reports on the dating of Lyveden ware, the firing of two replica medieval kilns each with two parallel flues, coins, charcoal, animal bones and witch bottles.
