SX 858667. Excavations of part of a late prehistoric field system near Newton Abbot concentrated on three of the numerous stone mounds, which turned out to be clearance heaps, not hut platforms. A small pit beyond one of the mounds contained the largest assemblage of BA metalworking debris yet recovered from S Britain (see 81/8032). Date: 10th century BC. |
