Abstract:
Description, plans and sections, and analysis of six houses, of which five predate the period when chimneys and upper floors became standard. Among interesting features noted are: a ?13th century massive cruck truss at Witheridge; a 15th century door-frame and porch window at West Anstey; at Pinhoe, a ?late 15th century house with open jointed cruck and a fully closed partition, and a mid 16th century cob house with only one main room; screens of late 15th/early 16th century at Halberton; at Plymtree, a common rafter roof and 15th century doorway.
