Abstract:
[SP 3272]. Detailed study of constructional techniques, plans and general appearances of all the early houses in a village which happens to have a preponderance of small houses well preserved from 15th century onwards. A rough chronological sequence is presented: Type I, crucks (six houses, the largest number so far found in any Warwickshire village); II, curved braces to tie beam or wall plate; III, square panels and straight braces. The house types make an interesting contrast with East Anglian examples; for instance in Stoneleigh end entries are quite common. Documentary research on the village continues.
