Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The prominent layered effect seen in sections exposed in the cinder heaps of Wealden bloomeries could result from a seasonal cycle of operations, with the most favourable time of year being used for charcoal burning, followed by smelting, and then the clearance and rebuilding of hearths. Each phase could leave a characteristic debris. D W C |
