Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Short summary with notes on sites encountered during the excavation of a pipeline trench, along a ten-kilometre stretch from Sturdy's Castle Inn, Tackley, to Charlbury, Oxfordshire. These comprised: an area of medieval pottery and pits, probably the ephemeral remains of one of the farmsteads of Weaveley; a stone-lined pit situated between two irregular pits, the latter containing charcoal layers, several inhumation burials and much Romano-British pottery; a previously unknown Roman villa; a probable sunken hut, associated with Roman and early Anglo-Saxon pottery; a pit containing Romano-British pottery; a section of the north Oxfordshire Grim's Ditch; and earthworks surrounding Wootton Wood, probably enclosure banks of the medieval period.
