Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
This article describes a Neolithic polished flint axe discovered whilst digging a hole for tree planting in Beaumont Park, Huddersfield, in 2007, and discusses it in a regional context. It is considered likely that the axe was deliberately deposited; it was probably moved a short distance from its original point of deposition during landscaping works when the park was created in the late 19th century. Finds of this type are comparatively rare in the South-Central Pennine area, and it is a significant addition to the body of data available for the study and understanding of the Neolithic in this region.
