Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Between October 2010 and March 2011, ArcHeritage undertook an extensive landscape survey of the Eastern Moors Estate on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The survey aimed to provide as complete a picture as possible of the rich archaeological resource within the estate, to inform a long-term landscape management strategy. This article outlines the project methodology and results. The recorded features demonstrate clearly the intensity of use of this upland area over millennia, and include Bronze Age monuments, field systems and settlements; ancient routeways; evidence for stone extraction and industry; features associated with use as a 19th century shooting estate; military training features dating from the Second World War; and water management features.
