Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
This article reports on findings to date from the Glenshee Archaeology Project, which began in 2012. Volunteers from the local community and further afield have been investigating two probable 'Pitcarmick buildings' at Lair, about 40km north of Perth. The site comprises a relatively dispersed settlement of longhouses on the site of previous, prehistoric, settlement. Little is currently known about buildings such as these. However, radiocarbon dates obtained during the current project strongly suggest the structures were in use during the 7th to 9th centuries AD, and are therefore probably contemporary with the turf longhouses excavated at Pitcarmick. It is hoped that future work will look to the surrounding landscape, studying how the buildings at Lair related to their immediate environment and other sites, both contemporary and otherwise. LD |
